Original WWII Aserbaidschan Legion sleeve shield, 2nd pattern printed example on red cotton. Issued to volunteers of the Aserbaidschan Legion, a foreign unit of the German Army composed primarily of Azerbaijani recruits from Soviet POWs and the Caucasus region.

This example features the national tricolour of blue, red, and green, with the black-bordered title “ASERBAIDSCHAN” at the top. The colours represent the Azerbaijani national flag, adapted into a Wehrmacht-style shield for wear on the upper sleeve.

Produced circa 1943–44, this simplified printed pattern replaced the earlier embroidered type. The colours remain strong, with light toning and faint handling marks consistent with storage.

Historical Context

The Aserbaidschan Legion was one of several Eastern volunteer units (Ostlegionen) formed under German command. Azerbaijani troops served across the Eastern Front and in rear-area duties, often motivated by anti-Soviet sentiment and national independence aspirations.

Condition

Excellent unissued condition. Bright colours and intact fabric, with minor soiling and edge fraying from long-term storage.

ALL ITEMS ARE GUARANTEED ORIGINAL PERIOD PIECES.
