Original 1943-dated German Army Zeltbahn equipment strap made from durable black-dyed pigskin leather. These straps were issued to secure the soldier’s Zeltbahn (tent quarter), blanket, or field equipment to the A-frame or tornister pack. This example is slightly longer than standard wartime variants and features a zinc-plated steel buckle and distinctive wartime pigskin grain texture.

Historical Context

By mid-war, Germany increasingly used pigskin leather for field gear as cowhide became scarce. Pigskin was durable, easy to dye black, and featured the distinctive porous texture seen here. Issued throughout the Wehrmacht, these straps were essential for securing field kits and shelter quarters. The 1943 date places this piece in the height of German wartime production, during the campaigns on the Eastern Front.

Condition

Good used condition. Leather remains firm yet flexible, with visible pigskin texture and light surface wear consistent with field use. Buckle retains its original finish and stitching remains secure. A very solid mid-war example ideal for display with original Zeltbahn or A-frame gear.
