Original collar tab from the “Der Stahlhelm” organisation, featuring a metal oakleaf and acorn insignia on black wool with blue border. Period construction with burlap backing and hand stitching — an authentic interwar veteran’s piece showing light age wear.

Historical Context

Founded in 1918, Der Stahlhelm, Bund der Frontsoldaten (“Steel Helmet, League of Front Soldiers”) was the largest nationalist veterans’ group in Weimar Germany. Formed to represent WWI veterans disillusioned by defeat and the Treaty of Versailles, it promoted unity, discipline, and conservative ideals.

By the early 1930s, the organisation had over half a million members and became politically aligned with nationalist movements. Following the National Socialist rise to power, Der Stahlhelm was absorbed into the SA Reserve, ending its independence. The oakleaf insignia symbolised strength and loyalty — key virtues among German veterans during the interwar years.

Condition

Good condition with minor wear. Metal insignia firmly attached; stitching and backing remain intact.
