Original WWII Dutch Waffen-SS Volunteer Sleeve Shield for the 23rd SS Panzergrenadier Division “Nederland.” Machine-embroidered in the Dutch national colours — orange, white, and blue — on black wool backing. The reverse retains traces of paper where it was once mounted in a collector’s album.

Formed largely of Dutch volunteers fighting alongside German forces on the Eastern Front, the “Nederland” Division saw extensive combat, particularly during the Narva and Courland campaigns. This shield is a well-preserved, genuine example of the insignia worn by these foreign volunteers, with bright colours and quality stitching.

Historical Context

The 23rd SS Division “Nederland” was formed from Dutch volunteers in 1941, later reorganised into a division in 1943. Fighting under Army Group North, it participated in some of the toughest battles on the Eastern Front before being destroyed in Courland in 1945.

The sleeve shield symbolised national identity within the Waffen-SS, marking the wearer as part of the Dutch contingent.

Condition

Good condition with minor age wear and light paper residue on reverse.
