Original 1941-dated German Army (Wehrmacht) artillery rucksack, issued for field and marching use. Constructed from heavy olive-green canvas with leather reinforcements and steel fittings, this early-war example represents the robust quality of pre-1942 German field gear before material shortages altered production standards.

The bag retains all original straps, buckles, and D-rings, with a clearly visible “1941” date stamp on the interior leather panel. Used to carry personal effects and small tools, this model was standard issue for artillery and support troops across multiple theatres of war.

Historical Context

The German artillery rucksack, or Artillerie Tornister, evolved from pre-war models and was widely used across the Wehrmacht throughout WWII. Early examples like this, combining strong linen canvas and tanned leather fittings, were phased out in favour of cheaper late-war models using ersatz materials. These rucksacks were standard kit for soldiers manning artillery batteries, transport units, and field headquarters.

Condition

Good overall, showing expected field wear and patina to canvas and leather. All straps and hardware remain functional, with minor fraying and surface aging consistent with wartime use. A very solid, display-worthy example of early-war German field equipment.
