Original early Weimar-era Bavarian Bevo sports badge, featuring finely woven gold thread on a black rayon backing. The badge displays the ornate intertwined “LLA” monogram surrounded by a detailed oak leaf wreath with a tied bow at the base. Produced during the early 1920s–1930s transitional period, this design reflects the reorganisation of German athletic and paramilitary associations following the First World War, when Bavaria maintained distinct local sports and marksmanship clubs before full Reich integration.

Historical Context

Following the collapse of Imperial Germany, the early Weimar period saw the creation of regional sports and training organisations across the former German states. In Bavaria, many units adopted unique insignia—such as this LLA badge, likely associated with a Landes-Leichtathletik (State Athletics) or related sports league. These locally woven Bevo patterns predate the national sports and political badges later standardised by the Third Reich, making them valuable examples of early interwar German insignia.

Condition

Very good overall with light creasing and faint discolouration from age. Reverse retains full thread detail with no fraying through the design.
