Original German 37mm Flak 18 fired brass shell casing, dating from 1935–1939, representing the early rearmament period of the Third Reich. Each casing is made from solid brass with visible manufacturer and date stamps on the base, showing use across pre-war and early wartime production. These were used with the 3.7cm Flak 18 anti-aircraft gun, one of Germany’s key light AA weapons prior to and during WWII. Sale is for one casing, selected at random from the group shown.

Historical Context

The 3.7cm Flak 18 was introduced in 1935 as Germany began rebuilding its armed forces. It served as the primary light anti-aircraft gun for the Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht during the Spanish Civil War and early years of WWII. Its brass shell casings — used before brass shortages forced a switch to steel — are a direct link to the pre-war rearmament and mobilisation of the Third Reich's military industry.

Casings from this period are now scarce, as most were recycled during wartime. Surviving examples with visible date and ordnance markings are sought after by collectors of artillery relics and ordnance from the early Third Reich era.

Condition

Good overall condition. Fired and fully inert. Surface shows typical age toning, handling marks, and light oxidation. Bases retain legible stamps with manufacturer codes and dates between 1935–1939. No structural cracks or significant dents. Excellent for ordnance or artillery display.
