An original Afrikakorps / Südfront gas plane bag manufactured in heavy cotton canvas and fitted with two press-stud fasteners. This example shows clear field use but remains structurally sound, with typical sun-fading and staining consistent with North African service. A genuine and increasingly scarce DAK soft-equipment item.

Historical Context

DAK gas plane bags (Gasschutzplane Tasche) were issued to Wehrmacht troops deployed in North Africa and the southern front from 1941–1943. Unlike the European-theatre rubberised bags, tropical bags were made from heavy cotton canvas that better survived the extreme heat of the desert. They carried the lightweight gas cape used to protect against chemical agents and dust storms. Due to harsh climate conditions, surviving examples—especially complete bags—are increasingly scarce today.

Condition

The bag shows visible field wear typical of DAK equipment, including staining, sweat-darkening, and minor fabric fraying around the studs and seams. Press snaps function correctly. No tears or structural damage. No internal stamps present. A solid and authentic field-used example.
