Hurry up! Only 1 item is in stock!

Original set of four photographs and a hand-painted postcard depicting German prisoners of war from the former Afrikakorps held in Egypt in 1947. The photos show POWs in tropical khaki uniforms standing in desert conditions near camp structures, likely within the Suez or Bitter Lakes prisoner camp system.

One photo shows three men posing together, another a single soldier in relaxed stance, and a hand-painted postcard reads “Aegypten, 1947 – Herzliche Glückwünsche zum 24. Geburtstag!” (“Egypt, 1947 – Heartfelt congratulations on your 24th birthday!”), signed by a comrade “Willi.”

Historical Context

After the Axis surrender in North Africa (May 1943), thousands of Afrikakorps soldiers were interned in Allied camps across the Middle East. Many remained in Egypt until 1947–48, producing personal items like letters and painted cards. These images capture daily life and camaraderie during captivity, offering a rare glimpse into the postwar period.

Condition

Very good overall with light creasing and age wear. Handwriting and artwork remain clear and well preserved.
