Original postwar German Sterbebild (death card) for Obergefreiter Emil Isele of the Luftwaffe. Born 6 March 1923 in Neustadt/Schwarzwald, he died on 2 December 1946 in Amstetten, Lower Austria, aged 24, from complications of war-related illness.
The card features Isele’s portrait in Luftwaffe uniform and includes devotional text, mourning verses, and imagery of a soldier’s grave and angel. Printed by J. Berendold, Neustadt, it stands as a poignant remembrance of a young airman who succumbed to his wartime suffering after the war’s end.
Although printed after WWII, this card reflects the enduring losses caused by the conflict. Many soldiers, like Isele, died in captivity or from war-related conditions in the years immediately following 1945. These postwar memorials honour those whose suffering continued beyond the battlefield.
Good condition with light creasing and minor toning. Image and text remain clear and well preserved.
