Hurry up! Only 1 item is in stock!

Original WWII German Sterbebild (death card) commemorating Obergefreiter Andreas Höfer of an infantry regiment, who was killed in action on 22 July 1941 during the invasion of the Soviet Union near Dolschek from a gunshot wound to the head. Born in St. Pantaleon, he died at age 24 in the opening phase of Operation Barbarossa.

The card features his portrait in uniform and a devotional verse beneath, bordered in black for mourning. The reverse shows religious artwork of Christ receiving a soul, symbolising eternal peace. Printed by Innviertler Verlagsgesellschaft, Braunau, this is an early-war example of a soldier’s memorial from the Eastern Front.

Historical Context

Issued during the early months of Germany’s 1941 invasion of the Soviet Union, this card honours one of the countless young men who perished in the brutal opening campaign. Such memorials served as both remembrance and religious consolation for families at home.
