Original German Army fat/oil tin intended for use with horse-drawn artillery units. These tins were issued for storing grease, oil, or similar maintenance materials and could be secured to loads or harness equipment during transport.

Historical Context

Prior to and during the early years of the Second World War, the German Army relied heavily on horse-drawn transport, particularly for artillery units. Fat and oil tins such as this were essential field items, used for lubrication, maintenance, and general equipment servicing. Dated examples from the pre-war period, especially 1936, are increasingly scarce and represent Germany’s rapid military expansion prior to the outbreak of war.

Condition

Good original condition overall. The tin shows honest period wear with surface patina throughout. A few dents are visible, most notably beneath the locking latch; however, these do not affect the opening or closing of the lid. Hinges, latch, and all four fixing points remain intact. The interior shows expected age wear consistent with use.

ALL ITEMS ARE GUARANTEED ORIGINAL PERIOD PIECES.
