Original Wehrmacht Erkennungsmarke (ID disc) for a soldier of 1st Kompanie, Kraftfahr Ersatz Abteilung 31, marked with soldier number 1172 and blood group “O” on the reverse. This replacement battalion trained and supplied personnel for vehicle transport and logistics units throughout the German Army.
Kraftfahr Ersatz Abteilung 31 (Motor Transport Replacement Battalion 31) was part of the Wehrmacht’s logistical support structure, responsible for training drivers, mechanics, and vehicle operators who served in motorised divisions and supply columns (Nachschubtruppen). These units were crucial in maintaining mobility and supply efficiency, particularly on the Eastern Front, where terrain and weather conditions made vehicle maintenance vital for survival and operational success.
