Original Wehrmacht ID disc (Erkennungsmarke) issued to a soldier of the 4th Machine Gun Replacement Company 454 (4./M.G. Ers. Kp. 454). The disc is stamped with soldier number 352. This unit trained and equipped replacement personnel for machine gun companies that were later assigned to various front-line infantry regiments across the German army.
The M.G. Ersatz Kompanien were part of the Wehrmacht replacement and training system (Ersatzheer), responsible for preparing machine gun teams and gunners for deployment to combat units. Company 454 was associated with the replacement structure of Wehrkreis IX (Military District Kassel) and supplied men to infantry and security divisions fighting on both the Eastern and Western Fronts. These units were vital in maintaining combat strength amid heavy losses sustained during the later years of the war.
Good overall condition with visible surface wear and light corrosion typical of age. Lettering remains clear and legible.
