Original Wehrmacht Erkennungsmarke (ID disc) belonging to Kraftfahr Ersatz Abteilung 27, stamped with the soldier’s personal number 5622 and blood group “A”. The unit, Krf. Ers. Abt. 27, served as a motor transport replacement and training battalion that provided drivers and mechanics to front-line motorised units.

This soldier was assigned to 1. Kompanie (1st Company). The unit was attached to the 157th Infantry Division, later absorbed into the 467th Infantry Division after the 157th’s destruction during the Eastern Front campaigns.

Historical Context

Ersatz-Abteilungen were responsible for training and replacing casualties within their specific service branch. Kraftfahr Ersatz Abteilung 27 was headquartered in Germany and provided replacements for motorised and logistics troops serving on both the Eastern and Western Fronts.

After the destruction of the 157th Infantry Division in late 1944, surviving personnel and support units were reassigned to the 467th Infantry Division, a reconstituted defensive formation operating in southern Germany until the war’s end.

Condition

Excellent relic-grade condition with full legibility of text and original patina. Light oxidation and age wear consistent with ground-found examples.
