Hurry up! Only 1 item is in stock!

Original WWII-era German Army (Heer) studio portrait depicting a seasoned soldier, likely an Eastern Front veteran, wearing the M43 field cap (Einheitsfeldmütze) and field-grey wool tunic. Visible insignia includes the Heer eagle on the right breast and a chevron on the lower left sleeve, denoting the rank of Gefreiter (Lance Corporal).

His uniform shows field wear typical of mid-to-late war service, and the serious expression and visible fatigue reflect the hardship common among soldiers returning from the Eastern Front. Printed on photographic postcard stock with scalloped edges. Reverse side blank except for standard postcard divisions.

Historical Context

By 1943, soldiers of the Eastern Front had endured some of the harshest combat of the war, facing extreme conditions, attrition, and logistical shortages. Portraits such as this one were often taken during periods of leave, serving as keepsakes or sent to family members as reassurance of survival amid prolonged campaigns in the Soviet Union.

Condition

Excellent preserved contrast and sharpness. Minor edge wear and light ageing consistent with period storage. Reverse clean with light toning.
