The Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD) was a compulsory labor organisation in the Third Reich, with female members serving primarily in agricultural, domestic, and social support roles. By 1939, RAD service had become mandatory for young women and was closely tied to state ideology and preparation for wartime mobilisation. Studio portraits such as this were commonly sent to family members before deployment to labour camps or reassignment.
