Original Kriegsmarine (German Navy) sleeve chevron intended for wear on the deck whites uniform. Constructed from white cotton twill with a dark navy-blue V-shaped rank stripe, this insignia denoted the first enlisted promotion equivalent to Matrose Gefreiter (Seaman First Class). An authentic, unissued example showing fine machine stitching and bright, unfaded colours — a desirable addition for Kriegsmarine collectors.

Historical Context

The Kriegsmarine, successor to the Reichsmarine, was the naval branch of the German armed forces from 1935 to 1945. This type of chevron was worn on the upper left sleeve of the white service uniform used in warm-weather or ceremonial conditions. The dark blue stripe contrasted sharply with the white base, providing clear identification of rank while maintaining the navy’s traditional aesthetic. Such insignia were often seen aboard surface vessels and U-boats operating in southern theatres, including the Mediterranean.

Condition

Superb unissued condition with crisp edges and tight stitching. No stains, discolouration, or fraying. The blue chevron retains full depth of colour — an excellent example for display or uniform restoration.
