Original German Luftwaffe rank chevron, constructed from high-quality dark blue-grey wool with silver-grey tresse (NCO braid) expertly machine-stitched around the edge. This chevron denotes the rank of Gefreiter (Lance Corporal) within the Luftwaffe, the German Air Force of the Second World War. It remains in excellent unissued condition, retaining full colour and crisp edges — ideal for display or uniform restoration.
This insignia was worn on the upper left sleeve of the Luftwaffe uniform to signify the first enlisted promotion from Flieger (Private) to Gefreiter. Introduced early in the Luftwaffe’s formation, the silver-grey tresse contrasted sharply with the dark blue wool of the air force tunic, ensuring visibility and standardisation across ranks. These chevrons were produced in vast quantities and issued to personnel across all Luftwaffe branches — from ground crew to flight units.
Excellent, unissued condition. No fraying or damage to the tresse, and the wool retains its full nap. Stitching on the reverse is tight and consistent with factory production standards.
