Original 1940 leaflet illustrated by renowned German artist Wolfgang Willrich, published by the Volksbund für das Deutschtum im Ausland (VDA – Association for German Cultural Relations Abroad). The piece depicts Oberst Bräuer, the first German paratrooper commander and victor of Dordrecht and Moerdijk during the 1940 Netherlands campaign.

The leaflet, titled “Oberst Bräuer – der erste deutsche Fallschirmjäger, der Sieger von Dordrecht und Moerdijk”, was issued as part of the VDA’s series promoting wartime heroism.

Historical Context

The Volksbund für das Deutschtum im Ausland (VDA) was a state-sponsored nationalist organisation that promoted German cultural identity abroad during the Third Reich. Many of its publications—such as this Willrich portrait—were distributed to schools and youth groups to glorify German military figures and ideals.
