Original Order of the Silesian Eagle 1st Class (Schlesischer Adler 1. Stufe), produced by the renowned maker Steinhauer & Lück. This striking black and silver badge was awarded to veterans and volunteers who took part in the Silesian uprisings and border conflicts following the First World War. A bold and visually distinctive Weimar-era decoration, the 1st Class represents the higher grade of this short-lived but historically significant award.
Historical Context
The Order of the Silesian Eagle was instituted in 1919 during the turbulent post-First World War period, when German Freikorps units and volunteers were engaged in fighting in Upper Silesia against Polish insurgents. The decoration was privately instituted to recognise those who participated in these conflicts between 1919 and 1921.
The 1st Class was awarded for distinguished service and was worn as a pin-back badge on the left breast. Its design features a stylised Silesian eagle with a curved sword across the chest and the banner “Für Schlesien” (“For Silesia”), symbolising defence of the region. Pieces by Steinhauer & Lück are well regarded for their quality and remain highly collectable among Freikorps and Weimar-period specialists.
Condition
Very good overall condition. The black enamel remains strong and intact with only light surface wear. Silvered finish shows minor age toning consistent with period manufacture. Reverse hardware is complete and functional, with correct pin and catch assembly. A clean, well-preserved example.

Did a lot of comparing before buying and ended up here. Item turned up exactly as pictured, which honestly is all I ask for these days. Packaging was solid too. Would buy again.

Not my first militaria purchase, but probably the first time I didn’t feel like I had to “decode” the listing. Straightforward, clear photos, realistic condition notes. That alone earns trust.

What I liked most was the way the history was presented. Factual and clearly written for collectors instead of glorifying anything. That matters to me.

Bought one piece initially just to test the waters. Ended up placing another order a week later. That should say enough.

Everything arrived on time and matched the listing. No drama, no excuses, no surprises. That’s increasingly uncommon with online militaria.

I collect mainly German pieces and I was pleasantly surprised by how accurate the description was. Nothing overstated, nothing hidden. Kind of rare now. Very happy with the purchase.
