Collection of five original German banknotes dating from the late Imperial and early World War I periods (1908–1914). These historically significant notes represent the economic backdrop of the German Empire at the dawn of the Great War, when paper money replaced precious metals for wartime finance.

This set includes:

  • 20 Mark – Reichsbanknote, Berlin 1910
  • 50 Mark – Darlehnskassenschein, 1914 issue
  • 100 Mark – Reichsbanknote, Berlin 1908
  • 1000 Mark – Reichsbanknote, Berlin 1910
  • 2 Mark – Darlehnskassenschein, 1914 issue

Each note features ornate imperial designs, Reichsbank signatures, and vivid printing symbolic of pre-war Germany’s wealth and prestige.

Historical Context

These notes circulated during the transition from peacetime prosperity to wartime inflation. The Darlehnskassenscheine (“loan banknotes”) were emergency issues produced by the Reich Treasury to fund the early stages of WWI, making them an important reflection of Germany’s shifting wartime economy.

Condition

All examples are circulated with expected creasing and wear but remain fully legible and display excellent character. A complete and visually impressive snapshot of Germany’s wartime currency.
