Original VAD (Voluntary Labour Service) member’s badge produced by Assmann & Söhne, Lüdenscheid, featuring the classic spade and wheat sheaf motif symbolising agricultural and community labour under the Reichsarbeitsdienst (RAD). The reverse is clearly stamped with the Assmann “A” maker mark and “GES. GESCH.”, indicating official protection of the design.
The VAD (Voluntary Workers Service) formed part of the Reich Labour Service (RAD) network, focusing on women’s contributions to national agricultural and domestic work projects during the 1930s. Badges such as this were worn proudly on civilian clothing, symbolising participation in the state’s drive for self-sufficiency and national service.
Good overall condition with an even bronze tone and minor patina from age. Maker details remain crisp and legible; pin mechanism intact and functional.
