This example is produced in a high-quality silvered finish, featuring the characteristic spade with flanking wheat sheaves symbolising productivity and agricultural labour. The reverse is clearly marked “GES. GESCH.” indicating a legally protected design under the Third Reich.
The VAD (Voluntary Workers Service) operated as part of the Reich Labour Service (RAD), providing structured employment and social training for women before and during the early years of the Third Reich. Badges such as this denoted membership and participation, and were worn on civilian attire to display national service affiliation.
