Original 1915 German WWI chronicle yearbook, titled Um Vaterland und Freiheit (“For Fatherland and Freedom”), edited by Walther Stein and published by Hermann Montanus Verlag, Siegen and Leipzig. This is the third volume (Dritter Band), printed during the early years of the Great War.
The book serves as a photographic and written chronicle of the First World War, covering the years 1914–1915. It includes over 1,200 illustrations and photographs depicting major battles, military leaders, and scenes from the front. Images include German infantry under fire, naval operations, and portraits of prominent figures such as Generaloberst von Hindenburg and Kapitänleutnant Otto Weddigen, commander of the U-9.
Historical Context
Publications such as Um Vaterland und Freiheit were produced as patriotic wartime chronicles, intended both as historical documentation and morale boosters for the home front. This volume captures Germany’s early campaigns on the Western and Eastern fronts, as well as naval operations during the height of Imperial Germany’s wartime effort.
Condition
Fair to good overall condition for its age. Complete with all pages intact. Some edge wear, toning, and water staining to the cover and interior pages, typical of period paper stock. Binding remains stable and photographs are clear.

Not my first militaria purchase, but probably the first time I didn’t feel like I had to “decode” the listing. Straightforward, clear photos, realistic condition notes. That alone earns trust.

What I liked most was the way the history was presented. Factual and clearly written for collectors instead of glorifying anything. That matters to me.

Bought one piece initially just to test the waters. Ended up placing another order a week later. That should say enough.

I collect mainly German pieces and I was pleasantly surprised by how accurate the description was. Nothing overstated, nothing hidden. Kind of rare now. Very happy with the purchase.
