Original World War I Austrian veteran ribbon bar representing two awards from the 1914–1918 Great War period. Following the end of the First World War and the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Austria instituted commemorative decorations to recognise wartime service. One of the most commonly awarded was the Austrian War Medal 1914–1918 (Kriegsmedaille), introduced in 1932.
The red-and-white ribbon pattern is consistent with Austrian Great War commemorative awards. The miniature crossed swords device signifies frontline combatant service.
