Original “Der Stahlhelm” veterans organisation badge, produced for former German soldiers of the First World War. Crafted in the form of a steel helmet bearing the Iron Cross and Gothic inscription “Der Stahlhelm”, this badge symbolised membership in one of the largest veterans’ associations of the interwar period.
Manufactured by N.&H and stamped GES. GESCH. (legally protected design), this nickel-plated brass example retains its original pin assembly and displays a well-preserved patina from age.
Founded in 1918, Der Stahlhelm, Bund der Frontsoldaten (“Steel Helmet, League of Frontline Soldiers”) was one of Germany’s most influential veterans’ organisations during the Weimar Republic. It represented nationalist WWI veterans and later became closely aligned with conservative and paramilitary movements leading into the 1930s. Members proudly wore this helmet-shaped badge as a mark of identity and solidarity among fellow front-line soldiers.
