An original late-war collar tab attributed to the 29th Waffen-Grenadier Division of the SS (Italian No.1), produced in 1945. This example features the distinctive fasces emblem in grey thread embroidery with red accent detail, set against a black wool backing. A rare and historically significant insignia from the final months of the war.
Historical Context
The 29th Waffen-Grenadier Division of the SS (Italian No.1) was formed from Italian volunteers following Italy’s armistice in 1943 and subsequent German occupation of northern Italy. Operating under German command, the unit was primarily engaged in anti-partisan operations in northern Italy during the final phase of the war.
Collar tabs for foreign volunteer SS formations were produced in limited numbers, particularly in 1944–1945 when resources were strained and production was decentralised. Dachau became one of the late-war production centres for insignia. The fasces emblem, derived from Roman symbolism, was adopted to reflect the Italian identity of the formation.
Examples dated to 1945 represent some of the final insignia produced before Germany’s collapse, making them comparatively scarce.
Condition
The tab remains in mint condition. The black wool backing is intact with no mothing, thinning or structural damage. The grey embroidered fasces retains full definition and tight stitching, with the red accent thread clearly visible and unfaded.
There are no signs of stitching to a uniform, indicating the piece was never applied. Edges remain sharp and original, and the reverse shows clean backing material consistent with period manufacture. Overall, a superb untouched example.

Did a lot of comparing before buying and ended up here. Item turned up exactly as pictured, which honestly is all I ask for these days. Packaging was solid too. Would buy again.

Not my first militaria purchase, but probably the first time I didn’t feel like I had to “decode” the listing. Straightforward, clear photos, realistic condition notes. That alone earns trust.

What I liked most was the way the history was presented. Factual and clearly written for collectors instead of glorifying anything. That matters to me.

Bought one piece initially just to test the waters. Ended up placing another order a week later. That should say enough.

Everything arrived on time and matched the listing. No drama, no excuses, no surprises. That’s increasingly uncommon with online militaria.

I collect mainly German pieces and I was pleasantly surprised by how accurate the description was. Nothing overstated, nothing hidden. Kind of rare now. Very happy with the purchase.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but this one felt deserved. Honest listing, fair price, no nonsense. The piece now sits proudly in my collection. Thanks Mr. Taylor
