An original German Wehrmacht ammunition pouch for the G43 semi-automatic rifle, maker marked “ROS” and dated 1944. Constructed in tan pebbled leather with brown leather securing straps, this is a late-war production example in very good overall condition.

Historical Context

The Gewehr 43 (G43) was introduced by the Wehrmacht in 1943 as Germany’s primary semi-automatic service rifle, replacing the earlier G41. Designed to improve infantry firepower on the Eastern Front, the G43 required dedicated ammunition pouches capable of holding two 10-round magazines. By 1944, German leather equipment production reflected wartime material pressures, often showing simplified construction and mixed leather tones. Maker code “ROS” is a known manufacturer of wartime leather equipment, with 1944-dated examples representing late-war output during peak operational demand.

Original G43 pouches are increasingly sought after due to the rifle’s relative scarcity compared to the Kar98k and the shorter production window of the G43 itself.

Condition

The pouch remains in very good condition. The tan leather body retains strong structure with no major cracking or structural weakness. Stitching is intact throughout, with tight seams and no significant separation.

The brown leather closing straps remain supple and functional, with original stitching present. Hardware is intact and secure. Interior markings are clearly visible, including the “ROS” maker stamp and 1944 date.

Minor surface wear consistent with age is present, but overall this is a clean and well-preserved example.
