Original WWII Italian Army cloth cap badge for the 132nd Armoured Division (“Ariete”), one of Italy’s most distinguished divisions of the Second World War. This is an embroidered issue example, produced on grey-green wool backing and featuring the traditional crossed cannons and winged projectile motif, with the number 132 affixed in gilt thread at the centre.

Historical Context

The 132nd Armoured Division “Ariete” was one of the most famous formations of the Royal Italian Army during World War II, fighting extensively in North Africa alongside German Afrika Korps units. The division earned distinction for its actions at Gazala and El Alamein, where it was nearly destroyed in 1942. Its emblem—a winged projectile over crossed cannons—symbolised speed and firepower, reflecting the division’s mechanised nature.

Condition

Good, combat-used condition. The wool backing shows fraying and thread loss along the edges consistent with field removal. Embroidery and gilt numeral remain well-defined. A strong, untouched example of an Italian Army field insignia with excellent character.
