Original WWII Italian Army Pioneers (Genio) shoulder board overlay plate, manufactured in solid brass with rear mounting loops intact. The front features the flaming grenade emblem above crossed fasces, symbolising the Genio Militare (Engineer and Pioneer Corps) responsible for fortifications, demolitions, and field construction duties within the Italian Royal Army.

This overlay plate was worn on the officer and NCO epaulettes of the Pioneers branch, attached over the uniform shoulder board. The fine detailing in the casting, including flame relief and fasces texture, is typical of mid-war Italian manufacture.

Historical Context

The Genio Militare played a vital role in Italy’s wartime engineering efforts, constructing defensive lines, bridges, and bunkers throughout campaigns in North Africa, the Balkans, and Italy itself. These units often worked under harsh conditions on both Axis and occupied fronts, making surviving insignia examples relatively scarce.

Condition

Very good condition with light wear and natural patina. All rear attachment fittings are complete and secure. No repairs or damage noted. Displays beautifully.
